The long walks in the woods, the slopes on the Skuleberget mount, and the breathtaking views of the archipelago are undoubtedly appetizing.
Just as your breakfast requires a good amount of energy before you start exploring the wonders of Skuleskogen National Park, you will remember those delicious sandwiches that you put in your backpack before starting the next stage of the Höga Kusten Leden.
Enjoying your meals by the seaside is a really soothing experience. It's a staple of boathouse living.
The Dock House at the marina is facing east, south-east, and towards the Docksta fjord. In the summer morning, you can't imagine a more suggestive sunny place to have your breakfast or, before dinner, your aperitivo directly outdoors, a few steps from the water on your own pier section.
The dock house's interiors are more basic than those of a home, making your life there simplier and more laid-back.
Meals are fun to prepare in the kitchenett: in this post, are some ideas we've compiled to make it enjoyable.
First, let's take a look at what you have at your disposal.
•
Having a microwave oven on hand often suffices to prepare meals, even if your kitchen isn't set up for cooking. The microwave is a useful and efficient ally; it allows you to quickly prepare and serve meals in a matter of minutes.
🛒 There are a variety of readily heated, frozen, or prepared meals available in the ICA supermarket, downtown the village. They always require very little preparation; just adhere to the suggested power and timings on the packaging.
•
For milk and yogurt, fresh water or a couple of cold beers or a bottle of white wine and to store your foods, before they are prepared, there is a refrigerator of 41 liters. It also has a refrigerator cell to better store frozen products.
•
To roast a slice of bread, or one of the delicious round-focacce that you can find in Sweden, there is an electric toaster.
Into the store, you will also find an infinite selection of dry slices, like Wasa and other crackers that you will not need to heat. With a thread of salted margarine and are ideal either for breakfast or for your snack time.
👉 On the High Coast, you're home to the traditional "tunnbröd" (literally "thin bread"). These Swedish flatbreads have many variants, from the soft and spicy, mildly anise-flavored that you can even roll (it gets frozen and you find it on the fresh bread bench) to the dry and very thin variants (cracker-like in texture). On the crocery shelves, they also come from several local craftsmen; almost every community in the area has one.
•
With the water boiler, you can prepare a couple of good cup of thè, but there are also other options: you can quickly prepare a hot soup (at the supermarket you can find many tasty varieties in envelope), or you can use boiling water to make one of the lyofilized meals that backpackers carrie during trekking trips.
👉 Another delicious drink is the lyofilized blueberry soup (Blåbär Soppa): full of energy and rich in C vitamin. Have you tried it yet? It's exquisite. The soup can be served warm or cold, depending on your preference. You can serve it either plain or with a dollop of whipped cream on top.
•
At the Dock House, you have a coffee machine ("DolceGusto" compatible capsules), so, in addition to making a delicious Italian espresso or a longer one, based on your preferences, you can choose from the extensive selection of variants that are now available in practically all supermarkets and specialty shops.
If you like a different hot beverage, like coffee or cappuccino, bring your favorite capsules with you to go with the traditional “Espresso” ones you find when you arrive.
During your holidays on the High Coast, dining “al fresco” under the stunning northern Swedish summer sky with a view of the sea is a unique experience.
Here are some “image ideas” to make your meals at the boathouse truly memorable:
• BREAKFAST
The summer's first morning sun rises extremely early, right in front of the marina out to the east. If you'd like, you can also enjoy it while you have breakfast outside on the dock.
This is probably the most important meal of the day. It will provide you with all the energy you will need during the day for the walks and excursions you have planned.
• LUNCH
Most of the time, lunch is just a bag of breakfast that gets consumed during the day.
You won't even have access to a drink kiosk when you're walking through a forest or along a path leading to stunning lakes in the middle of a national park, so in your backpack, along with the essential liquid supplies, you should pack everything you'll need for a genuine picnic in the great outdoors or a quick stop to rehydrate and refuel.
• APERITIVO
Our piers have a long tradition of serving "aperitivi", and not only on board! The appetizers prepared by a few well-chosen "stuzzichini" will be the moment you will love at the conclusion of an exciting day of hiking, regardless of what you will pair it with—a cup of fresh white wine, a particular craft beer, or your favorite drink.
You can borrow two different kits of glasses: “Wine & Spumante” or “Bier and Drinks”.
• DINNER
Dinner is often accompanied by a stunning view of the Docksta fjord, as the endless twilight light appears to never end.
Thankfully, you don't have to spend hours cooking to create a gorgeous supper that will satisfy your appetite.
👉 Classic Swedish meatballs (köttbullar) can be easily prepared from frozen in minutes, in the microwave.
• VARIATIONS AROUND COFFEE
🇮🇹 “Affogato al caffè”☕
Put a tablespoon of vanilla ice cream in a cup and simply pour over a boiling espresso. Serve it and consume it immediately.
🇮🇹 “Caffè con panna”☕
In the cup of a hot “espresso”, simply add spray whipped cream (espresso is mandatory :)
