📝 Chapter 9 | #HighCoastSailor Mini-Guide
A Note for a Sailor ⛵ visiting Höga Kusten
[ 💌 from Docksta Havet ⚓ Marina ]
Hey there, dear Sailors-Explorers,
I'm writing this from our Sailor's Club House, where I spend most of my Summer evenings. You know, it's funny – I never planned to write a guide. It just happened naturally after so many conversations over coffee here at the guest harbour in Docksta, with sailors asking about hiking trails and hikers curious about boat life.
The other day, I was highlighting a hike over the map of Skuleskogen National Park for a Finnish family who had just come back from visiting the Naturum Museum at Skuleberget. The parents looked energized from their forest walk and Skogspaus break - you know that special feeling you get after spending time in nature. Their kids were already playing cards with a German couple who had sailed in that morning, and it hit me – this is what makes our marina different. It's this simple mix of sea and mountains, of sailors and hikers, of stories shared over an espresso.
Some people ask why I included so much hiking information in this sailing guide. Well, that's just how it works here in the High Coast. One day you're anchored in a beautiful bay, the next you're up on a mountain trail looking down at your boat. It's quite something to think your boat getting smaller and smaller as you climb up Skuleberget – gives you a whole new perspective on things.
This guide started as notes I'd share with guests: outdoor adventures around the marina, some local tips, things I wish I'd known when I first arrived here. Nothing fancy, just practical stuff mixed with some nice experiences worth sharing. Like that perfect spot at the Skuleskogen National Park to watch the Archipelago, or that hidden single track through pine forest and blueberry bushes where you can take a re-energizing Skogspaus in one of our hammocks with a view over the fjords, or where to find the best morning coffee (hint: you're always welcome at our Club House for an espresso and maybe check out our nautical souvenirs). And you know what makes sailing here even more special? These unique waters - shaped by the world's highest land uplift since the Ice Age - they're still rising about 8mm every year!
When you get here in Docksta, drop by the Club House for a coffee. If I'm not there, I'm probably helping someone at the dock or up showing someone a trail start point. Just send me a message – I'm always around.
Looking forward to meeting you,
Tommaso :)
P.S. 👉 Don't worry if your plans change while you're here. Most people end up staying longer than they planned, and that's perfectly fine. The mountains here around the marina - especially Skuleberget with its trails - and the sea have that effect on people.
P.P.S. 👉 If you found this guide helpful, please share it with other sailors planning to explore Höga Kusten. You can find it at dockstahavet.se/high-coast-sailor-mini-guide - it's my way of helping fellow sailors discover this special corner of Sweden where mountains meet the sea. Feel free to bookmark it for your next visit or share the link with your sailing friends.
